Shakespeare In HollywoodOur production of "Ken Ludwig’s Shakespeare in Hollywood” mixes the glitz and pizzazz of 1930s Hollywood with fairy magic to create a show bursting with laughs and love. The play re-imagines the Warner Brothers’ problematic production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, directed by Max Reinhardt in 1934. Two familiar characters, Oberon and Puck, fresh from A Wood Outside Athens, find themselves transported from the land of legend and classical myth all the way to the Hollywood film set to join the starry cast. When the enchantment of the silver screen meets the magic of Fairyland, all merry hell breaks loose, and we are treated to transformations, chase scenes, and the kind of havoc that only a charmed flower can wreak.
The show’s venue is the suitably splendid Burgh Halls. The play calls for a large energetic cast so was a perfect choice for a group, brimming with the range of talent we have. We are also delighted to work with professional director, Andy Corelli again. Andy directed Blood Brothers with us back in 2014 and brought so much to that production that we welcomed him back with open arms. He brings a huge amount of experience and creativity. If the show is even half as entertaining as our rehearsals, we’re sure the audiences will really enjoy it. And to paraphrase a quote from the play “don’t let that word Shakespeare frighten you, the word on this show is sock-o entertainment from start to finish.” |
