A Kind of Vesuvius is written by Gillian Plowman and is directed by Players stalwart Serena Jones. Serena was last seen playing Norah in The Allotment (also written by Plowman) at Bonnytoun Farm last September. In the play, set in the 1990’s, three men down on their luck meet in very unusual circumstances over an Encyclopaedia Britannica as their lives spiral into chaos. David, Derek and Ian teeter on the brink of a ‘kind of Vesuvius’, each in his own way trying to cope with unemployment. The play is heady mix of touching moments and manic humour with the occasional dance thrown in.

Lockdown in Little Grimley is a comedy by critically acclaimed writer David Tristram and directed by Sue Vizard. This is a welcome new addition to the very popular Little Grimley series which follows the antics of a hapless Amateur Dramatic Society. The Players are no strangers to the Little Grimley characters, having performed Little Grimley presents Strictly Sex Factor (on Ice) back in 2018. This time around, Little Grimley is in lockdown and the Chairman Gordon calls an emergency meeting to discuss his idea for their next production when restrictions ease - a touching love story set in a hospital, with all profits destined for the NHS. But based on their previous efforts, will the NHS actually end up worse off?

Encore une fois!
This year The Players will be entering our production of “A Kind of Vesuvius” into the Scottish Community Drama Association’s Festival of One Act Plays. This is a national event with the first round at District level taking place in early March in Killin. From there the winning entrants progress to a Divisional and then Scottish Final and the Scottish winner proceeds to the British final. It’s a great opportunity for those involved to get feedback on the production and see others plays performed. Please feel free to support us in Killin, weekend of 4th and 5th March.
