Cinderella: A Fairytale
by Adam Peck
Cinderella is one of the oldest and best loved fairytales of all time but this production will bring it bang up to date. Gone are the ball gowns and glass slippers, replaced by some jazz and sparkly black boots!
When Ella’s mother dies, her loving father brings her up and introduces her to the woodland birds that surround their home. Ella’s world is then turned upside down when her father re-marries and she is introduced to her stepmother, brother and sister. But the birds remain the one constant, who watch over her and help her out, just like a fairy godmother would.
We're delighted to bring this dynamic production to life. This Cinderella is a magical mixture of comedy, romance, movement, music and drama. Ella is a great character. She has lost everything but is strong and feisty and beautifully kind-hearted. Her prince is a wonderfully geeky bird-watcher and so it is their mutual love of our feathered friends that brings them together.
The play will be performed in the round in the Provost Lawrie Hall in the Burgh Halls. That means the audience will be sitting around the four sides of the performance space, so will be close to all the action. You can also enjoy some toe-tapping live music throughout the show. We’re delighted to be working with a musical director who has composed an original musical score for the production which really brings the show to life.
And if you have loved the Players’ pantos in the past, rest assured that there are some nods to panto in this more contemporary version of Cinderella. Audience participation and baddy-booing are still in store for you!
So, will Ella's friends who roost in the trees, help her find the magic of love? Come along to this enchanting piece of family theatre to find out.
